Dear Colleagues, 

On behalf of the Sociedade Portuguesa de Neurociências (SPN, Portuguese Society for Neuroscience), it is our great pleasure to welcome you to the FENS Regional Meeting 2023 (FRM 2023), taking place on 3 – 5 May 2023 in Algarve, Portugal.

SPN aims to boost the development of neuroscience at national and regional levels by organising a meeting with an outstanding scientific programme reflecting the latest breakthroughs in neuroscience, as well as its diversity.

The FRM 2023 will be the first regional meeting of FENS held after the pandemic. It will continue to celebrate in-person interaction and knowledge exchange with the highest academic and professional standards. In addition, Algarve is Portugal’s southernmost region and has become an important location for highly distinguished international events across many scientific fields. It is also a popular world destination awarded several times for the “Best Beach Destination in Europe” and received the World Tourism Award in 2020. Its location allows participants to easily combine their professional and personal travels with excellent connections by car, bus, train or plane.

FENS President-Elect Prof. Irene Tracy welcomes this choice which strengthens the importance of regional meetings: “FENS Regional Meetings (FRMs) are wonderful opportunities to increase the visibility of our member societies and the impact of neuroscience in the different countries and regions of Europe. The spotlight will turn to Portugal and southern Europe for the next FRM which will be hosted by the Portuguese Society for Neuroscience (SPN) in 2023. We are excited to work with them and welcome the neuroscience community to join us for a rich and inspiring scientific programme”.

Taking advantage of this unique location, we are preparing an exciting and diverse scientific programme in coordination with the Spanish Neuroscience Society (SENC) and the Mediterranean Neuroscience Society (MNS), as well as satellite and special interest events, social gatherings and outreach activities for the general public.

The FRM 2023 will bring together international delegates from all over the world to share their latest discoveries and technological developments. On behalf of SPN and FENS, we would like to invite you to Algarve to celebrate Neuroscience in a welcoming and inspiring environment. We look forward to seeing you next year in Portugal!
